Its been a while since I’ve written one of these. I believe the last time I sat down to write a wrap up was back in 2009 and it ended something like this ” … its the dawn of the new year and there’s no one I’d rather spend it with than you. As she thinks about the coming year, DW surprises her at her window. He says, he wasn’t gonna miss the fireworks without her. She looked at him and she smiled. She knew she wanted this just as much as he did. The countdown began, 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1…. Happy New Year. DW puts his arm around her as they watch the fireworks together. After the fireworks, DW turns to ALY and smiles. He kisses her on her forehead and whispers, i wish you nothing but success for the new year. I hope you are happy in all that you do. ALY kisses him on his cheek and tells him thanks, he then disappears into the darkness.”
It sound like a story but its not. It was the ending of another chapter, another year of my life and similarly it all began with something like this….
2013 – the dawn of a new me. Not forgetting the things that have happened since my last write up, I vowed to become a much better, much stronger individual. It was the first year I hadn’t set goals for myself which was not the ‘norm’ for me. I figured I’d just deal with things as they come up and honestly while it worked out, it wasn’t the best option as I made decisions without analyzing and it cause little pockets of hiccups along the course of the year.
As with any passing year there comes birthdays and anniversaries, milestones for some if you would want to call them that. I celebrated my milestone, practically living 1/3 of my life and yet I seem to have great genes as I continue to not look the part. Sure there is a little bit of grey blending in perfectly with the sea of black but other than that, I have a hard time convincing others of age. It’s funny because when you are younger all you want is to be older or at least look older to avoid things like being carded at clubs and bars or to pick up slightly older women. I had no idea that I’d still be doing the same thing even though I’ve crossed the legal drinking age more than seven (7) years ago. What’s even more funny is that I attended the wedding of one of my best buds from high school ( Jerome ) a few weeks ago and we took a pic together. The photographer asked ” how do you know the groom? ” Jerome and I watched each other and replied at the same time ” we high school buds “, the photographer then followed up with ” How old are you? ” and you could say that he was a bit shock to discover that we were both the same age. Of course Jerome joked that if I shaved off my beard and put on a school uniform, I’d blend in perfectly… you know, like 21 Jump Street.
